His Exellency Thiru Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Tamil Nadu inaugurated Bhavan’s Annual Cultural Festival on
18th November 2017 and presented the
Bhavan’s P. Obul Reddy & P. Gnanamba Memorial Life Time Achievement Awards to
Dr. Kadri Gopalnath (Instrument - Saxophone),
Sri O.S. Arun (Carnatic vocal - Bhajan) and
Selvi Sailaja (Dance - Kutchipudi).
Sri L. Sabaretnam, Chairman, Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra presided. Dr. C.V Krishnaswami, Chairman, TAG-VHS Diabetes Research Center, Chennai was the Guest of Honour.
Thiru SS Rajasekar Chairman Kalakendra Sub Committee Chennai Kendra welcomed the gathering.
Sri K.N.Ramaswami Director Chennai Kendra proposed Vote of Thanks.
The Function was followed by a music concert of Mrs Aruna Sayeeram

LIFE TIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD - DANCE

The Bhavan’s Life Time Achievement Award was bestowed to Bharatanatyam Exponent Smt. Urmila Sathyanarayan on 18th April 2017 at Bhavan’s Main Auditorium by Justice Smt. Prabha Sridevan, Hon. Judge, Madras High Court ( Retd ). Sri L. Sabaretnam, Chairman, Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra welcomed the gathering and presided over the function. Smt. Geetha Rajashekar Senior Carnatic Musican felicitated. Sri K.N. Ramaswamy, Director, Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra delivered the Vote of Thanks.

26th March 2017 - DK PATTAMMAL 98TH BIRTHDAY

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in association with Anmajyothi celebrated the 98th Birthday of Music Legend D.K. Pattammal on 26th March 2017. D.K. Pattammal’s Isai Jyothi Award was bestowed to Smt. Ranjani and Smt. Gayatri and this was followed by a vocal concert by Sri S. Saketh Raman.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan celebrated Mahasivaratri Mahotsav on Friday, 24th February 2017 at Bhavan’s Main Hall. A Thematic Bharatanatyam presentation ‘ EGAN ANEGAN “ by Ms. Archana Mahes & Troupe was held followed by thematic vocal concert by Dr. Shobana Vignesh & Party.



26th January 2017 - THYAGARAJA ARADHANAI


Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chennai Kendra celebrated the 170th Saint Thyagaraja Aradhana Festival on Thursday, 26th January, 2017 . The programme consists of rendering of Saint Thyagaraja’s compositions and Pancharatna Kritis by Issai Mazhalai Ramji’s Group. The programme was sponsored by P. Obul Reddy and P. Gnanamba Trust & Indo National Limited. All are welcome.

8th January 2017 - VEDA PATA NIDHI TRUST

SHRADANJALI PROGRAMME
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in association with Veda Pata Nidhi Trust paid Shradhanjali to His Holiness Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal (Sage of Kanchi) on 8th January 2017. Pooja, Veda Paranayam, Floral tributes and honouring of Vedic Pundits were held during the Festival and this was followed by a Tamil Drama on “ Maha Periyava “,by Kala Mithra & Troupe.
