Chennai Kendra Report 2014-15

 

The activities of the Kendra are conducted in three different places in the city :
1.Mylapore – Main Kendra Complex
2.Kilpauk
3.T.Nagar Sub-Centre

1756 students appeared for Bhavan’s Saral Sanskrit Examinations. The Kendra is coaching candidates for the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha examinations. The week-end classes on Vedas, Vedangas, Puranas, Ithihasas, conducted by eminent scholars are very popular. German classes were added during the year.
34 candidates enrolled for the Hindi classes during the period April 2014 to March 2015.
Tamil Literary Discourses are held once in a week. Talent promotion, carnatic music concerts were held on last Sunday of every month. A special music concert on Saints of India were held once a month. A monthly programme on third Thursdays of every month were conducted for the special children.
Fine Art classes for Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Music (vocal), Bhajan, instruments like Veena, Violin, Keyboard, Table, Mridangam and Yogasanas/Medidation were also held at the Kendra. Week-end classes on Gita/Upanishads were conducted at T.Nagar, Sub-centre and at the Kendra. At T.Nagar, Sub-Centre, Bala Vikas classes, Free Sanskrit coaching classes, Sampradhaya Bhajan, Bharatanatyam, Yoga and Music classes were held.
The Net Book Sales was Rs.9.72 lakhs and a total number of 246 Life Membership were enrolled during the year 2014-15.
158 students from 55 schools were given Sri C. Subramaniam Award for Excellence in Character during the year.

Dr. Preetha Reddy Auditorium

The main auditorium of the Kendra which was renovated and made into a State-of-Art auditorium and named as Bhavan’s Dr. Preetha Reddy Auditorium” was recognized as the Best Auditorium in Chennai and an Award was given by the Mylapore Academy.

Kala Kendra

The Kendra conducted its own programmes almost throughout the year which included Music, Dance, Drama, Discourses, Lectures, Book Release, Book Reviews etc.,

The Gandhi Institute of Computer Education & Information Technology
( Mylapore and T.Nagar Centres )

The Chennai Unit of Bhavan’s Gandhi Institute of Computer Education and Information Technology was established in May 1, 1997. The second centre at T.Nagar was established on November 6, 2006. The Institute so far enrolled a total of 19793 candidates out of which 17001 successfully completed the course. During the year, 558 candidates were enrolled, out of which 462 successfully completed the various courses. The Senior Citizens course which was introduced in the year 2009 has trained 1436 persons till date.

Kala Kendra : 

The Kendra conducted Bhavan’s own programmes for more than 300 days which included Music, Dance, Drama, Harikatha, Namasankeerthanam, Sampradaya Bhajan, Literary Discourse, Drama and Lectures on Life, Literature and Culture.

Major Events : 

The main auditorium of the Kendra was renovated and made into a State-of-Art auditorium and was named as Bhavan’s Dr. Preetha Reddy Auditorium as per the wishes of the major donor. The Annual Dance Series and few other programmes of the Bhavan were conducted at Bhavan’s TAG Auditorium at Kilpauk during the year. The Major activities of the year are:

1735 students appeared for Bhavan’s Saral Sanskrit Examinations. The Kendra is coaching candidates’ for the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha Examinations. The week-end mid-week classes on Vedas, Vedangas, Puranas, Ithihasas are conducted by eminent scholars and are very popular. German Language classes were added during the year.

The total number of candidates enrolled for the Hindi classes during the period April 2013 to March 2014 was 233.

Fine Art classes for Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Music (vocal), Coral music, Bhajan, instruments like Veena, Violin, Keyboard, Tabla, Mridangam and Yogasana / Meditation were also held at the Kendra. Bala Vikas classes from Monday to Friday, Free Sanskrit coaching classes, Sampradhya Bhajan. Week-end classes on Gita /Upanishads are conducted in addition to fine art classes and Yoga at our T.Nagar Sub-Centre.

The net Book Sales was Rs. 8.41 lakhs and a total number of 254 Life Members were enrolled during the year 2013-2014.

The Gandhi Institute of Computer Education & Information Technology, ( Mylapore and T.Nagar Centres ) so far enrolled a total of 19235 candidates out of which 16539 successfully completed the course. During the year 706 candidates were enrolled, out of which 599 successfully completed the course. The Senior Citizens course which was introduced in the year 2009 has so far trained 1274 candidates.

Kala Kendra : 

Many programmes of Music, Dance, Drama, Harikatha, Namasankeerthanam, Sampradaya Bhajan, Literary Discourse, were also conducted.

Major Events : 

Two modern State-of-Art auditoriums were inaugurated. The air-conditioned Mini Hall ( P.A.C. Ramasamy Raja Hall ) has a seating capacity of 120 persons and another renovated air-conditioned auditorium ( TAG Auditorium ) at Kilpauk with a seating capacity of 1200 persons.

The total number of candidates enrolled for the Hindi classes during the period April 2012 to March 2013 was 120.  

Fine Art classes for Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Music (vocal), Coral music, Bhajan, instruments like Veena, Violin, Keyboard, Tabla, Mridangam and Yogasana / Meditation were also held. Bala Vikas classes are held at T.Nagar Sub-centre. Free Sanskrit coaching classes, Chess coaching classes are also held. 

The net Book Sales was Rs. 8.39 lakhs and a total number of 336 Life Members were enrolled during the year 2012-2013.

The Gandhi Institute of Computer Education & Information Technology ( Mylapore and T.Nagar Centres ) so far enrolled a total of 18529 candidates out of which 15940 successfully completed the course. During the year 746 candidates were enrolled, out of which 646 successfully completed the course. The Senior Citizens course which was introduced in the year 2009 has so far trained 957 candidates. During the year the Bhavan in association with TCS imparted 80 hours of employability training programme for the uneconomically backward section of the society and was successful in getting about 20 candidates employed with TCS.

1820 students appeared for Bhavan’s Saral Sanskrit Examinations. The Kendra is coaching candidates for the Dakshinia Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha examinations. The week-end classes on Vedas, Sastras, Ithihasam, Upanishads and mid-week discourses by eminent scholars are also very popular.

Fine Art classes for Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Music (Vocal), Instruments like Veena, Violin, Mridangam, Tabla, Keyboard and Yogasanas and Meditations were also held. A play school exists at the T.Nagar Sub-center . Total number of students studying in fine art classes is around 500.

 

At the Bhavan’s Gandhi Institute of Computer Education and Information Technology a total of 17783 candidates have enrolled so far out of which 15294 successfully completed the course. During the year 949 candidates were enrolled, out of which 825 successfully completed the various courses. The Senior Citizens Course which was introduced in the year 2009 has so far trained 858 persons.

1548 Students appeared for Bhavan’s Saral Sanskrit Examinations. The Kendra is coaching candidates for Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachara Sabha Examinations. The week-end classes on Upanishads, Vivek Choodamani, Vishnu Sahasranamam, etc conducted by an eminent scholar is very popular.


Fine Arts Classes for Bharatanatyam, Carnatic Music (Vocal), Instruments like Veena, Violin, Key Board, Sitar, Tabla, Mridangam, and Yogasanas / Meditation were also held. A Balavihar exists at the T.Nagar Centre.


At the Bhavan’s Gandhi Institute of Computer Education & Information Technology, a total of 16608 candidates have enrolled so far out of which 14282 have successfully completed the course. During the year, 1113 candidates were enrolled out of which 961 successfully completed the various courses. The Senior Citizens course which was introduced in the year 2009 has trained 446 persons till date.
